Is Microblading right for me?

Please keep in mind that I am a new artist looking for clients that are willing to help me improve my skill and practice. Because of this I will be charging lower prices for the time being that are subject to change. Thank you so much for your understanding.

Contrary to what you may think, microblading is not for everyone and there are actually very few perfect candidates for it. What is your skin type? Lifestyle? Do you wear make-up frequently? If you need a more in depth consultation before your actual appointment, it is always free. That way we can have a more in depth conversation about your expectations.

I want to make sure that microblading is going to last. This is your investment, your artist is here to make sure that you invest wisely.

Then what brow service is right for me?

Depending on what style you like best, its now time to decide what service is correct for you.

Microblading Only: Best for those with dry/normal skin and existing full brows. This service can not be performed on someone with oily skin, or someone with sparse brows or asymmetrical brows

Fusion/Hybrid Brows: Works on all skin types, existing full brows, or sparse brows, can fix asymmetrical brows or missing gaps of hair. Can be as natural or as soft as client desires

Powder/Ombre: Best for those with combo/oily skin but works on every skin type. Great for clients who want a precise dramatic brow, but also can be designed for clients with a natural look in mind.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is an advanced brow technique that uses a superfine row of needles to deposit pigments into the skin to create thin, hair-like strokes. Microblading is ideal for creating a very full and realistic looking brow, it is becoming an increasingly popular method in permanent makeup.

Microblading is best suited for those with dry to normal skin, naturally fuller eyebrows, and those who still want to apply makeup to their brows as microblading heals very natural.

Does the procedure hurt?

I use two types of topical antiseptic numbing creams prior to and during your procedure to ensure that the experience is as comfortable and painless as possible. Of course pain tolerances vary person to person and with that in mind I will take the absolute most care to assess your numbness and comfort level throughout the session.

How Long will it last?

While the inks I use are semi-permanent, you can expect the ink to fade gradually. Once the pigment has faded about 50% (usually around 1-1 & 1/2 years) it is recommended to come in for a touch up.

Fusion/Hybrid/Powder brows will always last longer than microblading only. The pigment usually fades around 50% over the course of 2 years or more, and if anything all you need is color boost anytime before that.

It is important to note that optimal and long lasting color is a direct result of how well your after care instructions are followed.

How many sessions are needed?

For optimal results, two sessions are needed with a 6-10 week window between the two appointments. At the touch up appointment we will assess the color retention, shape and make adjustments as necessary.

Absolutely! If you haven’t already please read the list of contraindications below that prevent you from getting the service, and please send cece a list of medications if you are taking any.

Do I need to know anything before I book?

Contraindications to Permanent make-up?

Please be advised that permanent make-up is a form of tattooing and there are some medical conditions and medications that prevent clients from getting the service. If you have any questions, please email or call. Occasionally, a doctor's note can be accepted for special cases.

Can I book if I have work from another artist?

Since my skill is still new and still in need of practice, I will not be taking clients that have previous work for the time being.

Prep 1 week before procedure

  • No heavy exercising 24 hours prior to your appointment

  • No waxing, threading, tinting, henna + more 3 weeks prior to your appointment

  • If you have an ideal shape and color in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment on your phone. Remember once your brows are done healing after the initial session they will lighten 40-60% this is normal.

  • You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.

  • If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.

  • Avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. 1 week is preferred. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.

  • Do not drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and any amount of caffeine you consume.

  • If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.

  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

What to expect

THE INITIAL SESSION

Brows are a two step process. The first step is the initial session/appointment. This determines shape, size, and color. I prefer to keep the initial appointment very conservative. When it comes to a tattoo that is permanently on your face less is definitely more at the initial appointment. You can add to a tattoo but you absolutely can’t subtract. This first step is to see how your skin reacts, heals and how your skin holds pigment.

Step by step process

  • First, I have you lay down for photos before we even start talking about your brows. I do ask you take off your mask briefly for these photos so i can see symmetry of your face and eyes.

  • We then begin to discuss your brows natural shape and your brow inspiration

  • We then discuss your skin type, amount of oil production your produce, your lifestyle so we can pick what will ideally heal and age the best for you

  • Then I begin to map your brows, during this time I ask to limit the amount of conversation as most people tend to have a lot of movement while speaking and my mapping method is very particular in measurements to your face. I take your face anatomy, symmetry, inspiration and how you naturally fill them in into consideration during this time.

  • If you have very asymmetrical brows this will be put into consideration and we will discuss where we should remove hairs for balance. With asymmetry, I will try my best to even them out as much as possible. Clients with asymmetrical brows also have asymmetrical eyes and creating a brow that is too perfect can throw off the balance of your face even more. I will give you my expert opinion but ultimately leave it up to you to decide how much upkeep you want.

  • Clients get full approval on shape, this is a tattoo on your face so please, be picky about it! Do not feel like you will offend me by not liking something. Your comfortability and satisfaction is my number one priority when shaping your brows.

  • The outline/mapping will appear darker and bolder than what they will look like after the procedure. This is hard outline so I know exactly where to stay within. The fronts can appear very boxy if you are getting microblading or fusion/hybrid just remember that area will be spaced out strokes that mimic life like hairs. Strokes in the front will always appear longer initially than when they heal (they shorten about 30-40% when healed)

  • After we have your perfect shape mapped I will then take a look at your natural brow hair color and skin undertone to determine the most natural looking color for you. I will then let you ask any questions before we get started.

  • If you are getting microblading only, I will then use a topical numbing agent to numb you for 7-10 minutes prior to starting. If you are getting fusion/hybrid brows I will do the outline on the tails into the body of the brow so I have a nice crisp outline prior to numbing. This does not hurt, I’ve been told it’s less uncomfortable than getting threaded or waxed, some say it feels like a baby scratch, some say it tickles. Everyone’s threshold of pain is different. Once the outline is done then I numb you before going any further into the procedure. If you are getting Powder/Ombré brows I do the outline and first pass of shading without numbing this ensures a crisp outline and better color retention (this might be more uncomfortable than the other brow procedures but ensures the best color retention)

  • Once you are finished numbing we will continue the procedure, passes are required to get the right amount of color saturation so when healed they are even, soft, and natural. Secondary numbing is applied as needed so you continue to remain comfortable.

  • I typically give you a peak once one brow is close to finished to calm any jitters. Showing you when we’re close to being finished will show you that they look really soft and natural.

  • After finishing both brows I may sit you up to check symmetry and make any changes as well as let you take a look at them

  • Once I am all finished you will be the first to look at them before ending the procedure.

  • Brows will appear bolder, darker, slightly swollen, and a little warm directly after the procedure this is totally normal. Then voila! You are done!

After your appointment

WHAT TO EXPECT

After treatment, it is normal to feel a sunburned sensation for a couple days. Followed by dry, itchy, and tender skin.

Your brows will appear darker and bolder/more red a few days after the appointment. During the healing process they will lighten ~30-60% and shrink in size. This is normal!

Healing takes approximately 4-6 weeks. as your skin naturally exfoliates and regenerates. You will notice color change, disappear and reappear as they fully heal.

Color may flake off and appear softer and less visible but will slowly reappear over the next few weeks.

This is all absolutely normal and part of the healing process and why one to two touch ups may be necessary. Be patient and know this is the part of the normal  and expected healing process.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

Directly after your appointment blot your eyebrows with a cotton round with no product every 45-60 minutes (this is really important). Starting the day after your appointment wash the tattooed area 3 times a day for dry/normal skin and 4-5 times a day for combo/oily skin for 5-7 days (or until they start flaking this is different for everyone). Use lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser (I recommend Cereve) and wash in the direction of hair growth, pat dry with a soft tissue or cotton round and apply a rice grain amount of the aftercare provided to the area every time they are washed. Keep the area clean and allow the skin to breathe for the best retention. Do not apply too much of the aftercare. A nice, thin layer is all you need. These washing instructions are not just a suggestion, your brows will 100% not heal properly without proper aftercare. I will most definitely notice if aftercare is not followed and you may be turned away from your perfecting session if I see you pose risk of not following aftercare as this can lead to an infection. Brows are 50% artists correct technique and 50% client care. This is an investment on your face so please take all aftercare seriously.

WHAT DO I DO WHEN MY BROWS BEGIN TO FLAKE OVER?

Leave them alone completely. No washing, No aftercare ointment, don’t touch them, don’t pick at them, let them naturally flake off no matter how tempting it is to touch them.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY BROWS DON’T FLAKE?

This is best case scenario when healing, wash and aftercare for a full 7 days and then stop after day 7 if they are not flaking by then.

WHAT YOU MUST AVOID UNTIL FINISHED FLAKING

  • Increased sweating, exercises, strenuous activity. Brow tattoo removal is done using saline, saline is what our sweat is made out of, so this can remove your tattoo by sweating during healing.

  • Getting your eyebrows wet outside of washing instructions. Yes, you can shower but face away from the shower and crack the curtain if you like hot showers.

  • Tanning bed use at any point after having your brows tattooed will result in discoloration and premature fading

  • Many UVA/UVB exposure will pose risk or discoloration. When brows are done flaking apply spf daily. Do not plan a vacation two weeks prior or 4 weeks after.

  • DO NOT PICK at any possible scabbing or flaking. You will pull out the ink permanently. I will 100% know if you picked at your brows to speed up the healing process and your touch up appointment will be canceled for not following aftercare.

  • Wash hands prior to washing brows, and wash your pillowcase to lower risk of infection

  • Avoid Retinol, Retin-A, Vitamin A, Acids & Oils on your brows and forehead. These ingredients are amazing but they have cellular communication so they will fade your brows prematurely.

  • No lotions, non gentle cleaner, or makeup should applied to the brows until they are done flaking

  • Do not sleep on your side, you will prematurely pull off the scabbing pulling out the ink entirely causing your brows to heal more patchy and uneven.

  • Do not wear your hair over your brows, the natural oils from your hair will cause premature fading during the healing process.

YOU MUST SCHEDULE YOUR TOUCH UP WITHIN 48 HOURS OF YOUR INITIAL APPOINTMENT

It is your responsibility to call to schedule your touch up within 48 hours of when your initial appointment is finished. I highly recommend prebooking before you leave. However if it must wait do so within the next two days. That way you’re guaranteed your touch-up spot and less likely to forget.
